The Western Valley Conference (WVC) Art Show was held in Moeville, Iowa Thursday, March 24. Thirteen of the nineteen schools in the conference participated. Each school was permitted to enter as many as fifty artworks. The show was juried by judges from the Sioux City Art Center and Morningside College.
BV Senior Melissa Hanigan received a Judge's choice award for her interpretation of Boccioni, Umberto's 1912 futurist painting, "Elastic." Junior Madison McDonough also received a judge's award for her photograph of Natalie Lapke. Junior Rosario Nelson was honored with a teacher's choice award for her ceramic sculpture of a praying angel.
Other Boyer Valley students who submitted drawings, paintings, photos, and sculptures included Freshmen Katie Cogdill and Chelsey Kermin; Juniors Makayla Carter and William McClure; and Seniors Stephanie Brink, Lucas Neilsen and Nick Sullivan.
Students from Westwood, Ridge View, OA/BCIG, and Whiting won first place for each class level. Senior Dalton Peterson from Woodbine won Best of Show.
Next year the WVC Art Show will be hosted jointly by ArWeVa and OA/BCIG and is expected to be held in Ida Grove on the third Thursday in March. Boyer Valley is slated to host the conference art show in 2013.
