Hey #BV, Got Pictures from DC?

We'd LOVE to include some pictures of the Trip to Washington DC in this year's 'Archive' Yearbook. If you or your parents have any, would you please share some with us? THANKS! We want to make this YOUR yearbook.

Here are four EASY ways to get your pictures in the Yearbook.

1. Upload them to this handy Google Drive Folder: "2015 DC Trip"

2. Attach them to an email  to Mr. Mallory malloryt@boyer-valley.k12.ia.us
(or to Yearbook Editor Frank Davis or Staffers Liberty Monk or Jared Habrel)

3. Download the absolutely FREE phone/iPod app ReplayIt* from Jostens and then upload then directly too the yearbook online.

4. Join ReplayIt* on your laptop or chromebook for FREE at www.replayit.com and upload them there.

*If you share pictures through ReplayIt, they're shared with everyone online too (for a year)- and if you purchase a yearbook, you'll receive a password to have access to them online permanently as part of your own "digital time capsule."

Sub Plans Mon 9/9/13

PER 7- 8th Grade Art, Mr. Mallory will need to leave by 2:00pm

Student should finish work on their painting assignments or begin cleaning up. Students who are finished may begin working on Chapter Review Questions 1-20 on page 15 which will be due this Wednesday, Sept. 11. Students should expect a test over the elements and principles of design (Chapter 1) on Wednesday.

PER 8- Yearbook, Mr. Mallory will not be here at all for this class today.

Working in groups of 2-3, Students should complete Activity 22.3 in their Module 22 packets. They should use page 138 in their books to help them. Activities 1-4 will all be due this Thursday. The Module 22 test will also be this Thursday, not Friday- because we will not have class Friday due to Homecoming Decoration Day.

If/when they are finished with Activity 3, Students may use the lab computers or checkout laptops to work on the "On Deadline" Layout & Ad assignments. I recommend using either Photoshop or InDesign, but they may use MS Word, Corell Draw or any computer program or app they feel most comfortable with. They may ask more experienced students to help them if they need it.The revised due date for this assignment is now Monday, September 16.

Please hand back the Module 23 Tests to students (on the island counter). Thank You.

YEARBOOK this week

When in doubt- you can see what's planned and what's due when by checking http://planbook.com/student?t=928417&k=maldog

This week, we'll be learning about caption writing. Be sure to check http://archive-yrbk.wikispaces.com/YB+012-+Caption+Writing for details.

PLEASE NOTE- (unless, of course you have NO pictures whatsoever yet)
Fall Spread Assignments are due at the end of this week.

  • MON- Caption Writing; Read pp. 74-77
  • TUES- Complete Activities 12.1, 12.2 and/or work in lab on pages
  • WED- Activities 12.1, 12.2 Due today
  • THUR- Complete Activities 12.3 and 12.4, and/or work on pages in lab
  • FRI- Test on Caption Writing
    • Activities 12.3 and 12.4 Due today
    • Fall pages DUE TODAY
ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND- Your grade comes from 3 sources; Assignments/Quizzes, Ad & Book Sales, and Production work. Therefore, keep these things in mind...
  • Assignments/Quizzes
    • Module 12 Activity worksheets, Captions reading/notes & Quiz
  • Ad & Book Sales
    • Keep selling ads on your own time, just because we aren't going out together, missing school anymore, doesn't mean you can't keep selling & raise your grade!
    • As of today (11/5) we're only at about 30% of our ad goal. $2,097.00/$7,000.00
    • Start trying to get people to buy books. Sell to teachers & staff, both Dunlap and Dow City (they get $10 off!)
    • REMIND EVERYBODY that the price will go up (from $36 to $42) if they don't order before Christmas break!
    • Can you believe we've only sold 14 pre-orders so far?! Out of almost 500+ people K-12!
You're working hard on this book, don't you want people to see it?
    • Remember too, that we have plenty of 2011-12 books left if people are interested. Often parents & alumni are interested in older books too. We have lots from 2002-2011 for just $25 each.
  • Production work
    • Every week, from now on, I check on how much time everyone spends on yearbookavenue (it keeps track) and how many times you hit "save," not to mention how your pages are coming. It will become a weekly score.
    • Next Monday, we'll go over the rubrics (score sheets) for page production and see what changes/improvements you can make on your Fall assignments. We'll also take a look at the ladder and start assigning Winter pages, so be thinking about what sports, events, or clubs you want to be in charge of.
    • Bob & Paul- we have to send the cover to the plant by or before Friday, November 16!!!

Elements & Principles of Design

8th Grade Art students are learning about these in Chapter 1 of their textbook (pages 1-16). Use these graphics to study for your quiz. 7th Grade Art, Painting, Ceramics & Photography students would do well to learn these and use them in their artworks. Even Yearbook students would benefit from knowing the Principles for the sake of designing page layouts. Theoretically, if Drawing & Seeing students are learning their 5 core perceptual skills, these will automatically/intuitively fall into place without learning about them.

About the Principles, remember "Form follows function," and good design should 1) Capture attention 2) Hold attention and 3) Direct Attention and your compositions will have impact and be effective.
