Painting Analysis Paper

http://bv-painting.wikispaces.com/01-+Lists+of+Famous+Painters
Above is a link to the list of influential painters to choose from for our Painting Analysis Paper, which is due Friday, November 2.

This is a link to the directions and template for you to use to help you complete your analysis of one painters.

Remember, if you are in Mrs. Koenig's room for anything and would like to, you may work on this paper in her room this week.

Additionally, you will create a painting that is either a copy or mimics the style of the painter which you are studying. This will be due by (or before) Friday, November 9.

Some of you have mentioned that you would prefer to work on this at home. If you are working at home, please bring something to work on from another class during Painting class 6th hour. Thank You.
Be aware, that if a majority of class members elect to do that, we will probably take notes and introduce a new era in art history and then new painting during class time.

Drawing: Formal Writing Assignment

Yes, as a matter of fact, we do have to write a paper for Drawing class- but don't fret, it will be short (only 1-3 pages), it won't require a bunch of research or a lot of sources (it's going to be mostly your own opinions), and I'm providing you with a pre-formated template- complete with questions to guide you through.

First, select a draftsman (that's the technical term for someone who draws) from the list of Important and Influential Draftsmen found at http://drawing-and-seeing.wikispaces.com/Influential+Draftsmen.  On the top of the page, there's a link that lets you download the template, open it and save it in your school folder (or click here http://drawing-and-seeing.wikispaces.com/file/view/DrawingFormalWritingAssignment.doc)

Then, select one example of the artist’s work, which you will analyze. Search for images with the artist’s name, please insert the image which you use below the title of your paper.

Use the questions for each paragraph to help you along. Answer as many of them as you can. If there are any which you can’t answer, skip them- but be sure to write at least 3-5 sentences for each paragraph. It will probably be easier for you to work with or without the questions because you're already familiar with the 4 steps in Art Criticism.

I will give you class time next week (Mar 18-21) to work on it. The papers aren't due until Friday, April 1.

Ceramics Research Project

Since we're waiting for our clay to arrive anyway, let's get our research papers out of the way.
Ceramics students will research and report on the life and work of an important potter or sculptor. Papers should follow the Boyer Valley Community School Research Paper Guidelines style book. I have several copies in the Art Room. This is essentially the Modern Language Association's format.

We will continue to learn new vocabulary terms and I may throw in some exercises with modeling clay, so students will have until Friday, September 14 to turn in their first drafts. Final drafts will be due September 21. Ceramics papers should be 3-5 pages in length.

Ceramics Report Topics:
  • Bruno Luchesci
  • Jan Jacque
  • Henry Moore
  • August Rodin
  • Elie Nadelman
  • George Segal
  • Edgar Degas
  • Alberto Giacometti
  • Josiah Wedgwood
  • Clarice Cliff
  • Fredrick &/or Charlotte Rhead
  • Sen-no-Riyu (from Japan)
  • the Raku family (also from Japan)
I would LOVE it if you could also find some digital images of these artists or their works so that we could share them with the class. Monday, August 27 students will select their topics and we will look over the style book together.
