• Adjust/Edit an image on Flickr using Aviary (re-label as “Fixed in Aviary”)
• No less than 3 comments on classmates pictures in class group on Flickr; 1 using 4-Art Criticism Steps, 2 using PQP (Please send me a message on Flickr, telling me which pictures you commented on)

• Shoot & Upload pictures for PORTFOLIO
• Create a set on Flickr labeled “Portfolio,” place pictures in it

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY; Do this right away

Boyer Valley Digital Photography students-

Please register for a free Flickr account as soon as possible. http://www.flickr.com You will be uploading and managing your images there- that's where I will be able to find them in order to grade them or comment on them.

If you are planning on using an ipod touch, ipad, smart phone or tablet rather than or in addition to a camera, you should look for the free Flickr app and download it as soon as possible.

I recommend that you register using your school gmail account. While you could use yahoo or facebook, if you do, you will run into difficulties with the school's security blocks.

Once you've registered explore, get used to it, upload a few pictures you've already taken before this class that you're proud of, but please make sure that you take care of the two other things soon-

Look for me, "Mal Dog" and request to connect with me and look for the "Boyer Valley Photo Class" group and ask to join.

Are you getting the idea that there's a lot of digital to Digital Photography? Make sure you visit and bookmark our class wiki, http://digphoto.wikispaces.com because after all, all of our assignments and in fact, all our chapter tests are all already on there.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY!

Holy Guacamole! You weren't kidding when you complained about how difficult that quiz was. I'm not sure i should bother entering the scores under 25%. I am thinking (don't count on it, I'm just thinking at this point) about spending some more time reviewing with you and giving you a paper re-test.

Remember, the emphasis is on Shutter Speed & Aperture, so study over what each does and how to get them to work together.

Remember to include your name and email address, but an ID # is not necessary. If you are disappointed with your results (it is a toughie) you may study more and re-take it once, but you may not just keep taking it until you get the results you want (yes, I'll know  Kelsi uh, er, I mean whoever might be thinking of trying that). • Shoot some action (and/or) sports pictures and add them to the pool by Monday, Jan 18

REMINDER: You can and probably should go ahead and start working on shooting assignments for your portfolio already, however, if you upload them to your flickr photostream already, please wait to add them to our class pool until we're covering that specific assignment, don't add everything you upload to the pool as soon as you upload it. Welcome to Digital Photography

Welcome to Boyer Valley's Digital Photography Class with Mr. Mallory.

Over the course of the semester I may email you assignments or reminders of due dates. Much of our class is available online (thus "digital"), if you don't have ready access to the internet at home, you can always use the Yearbook Lab adjacent to the Art Room, or other computers on campus. Once a student even took the entire class, quizzes and all, on their iPhone!

Below are some important links you may need. Robert Willis, who's taking the class Independent Study should be the only one who will need access to the notes slideshow. Everyone else will get those notes on Wed or Thur, Jan 9 or 10.

Elements & Principles of Design

8th Grade Art students are learning about these in Chapter 1 of their textbook (pages 1-16). Use these graphics to study for your quiz. 7th Grade Art, Painting, Ceramics & Photography students would do well to learn these and use them in their artworks. Even Yearbook students would benefit from knowing the Principles for the sake of designing page layouts. Theoretically, if Drawing & Seeing students are learning their 5 core perceptual skills, these will automatically/intuitively fall into place without learning about them.

About the Principles, remember "Form follows function," and good design should 1) Capture attention 2) Hold attention and 3) Direct Attention and your compositions will have impact and be effective.

The Fantastic Fours of Art

The 3 'Okes!

Paintings should try to do this. Great Photos should try to do this too. Probably not a bad goal for writing too.

1. When you look at an artwork of any kind, what mood do they invoke by how they used the elements? 
2. What things to they evoke for you? 
3. Was it meant to be provocative? If so, how does it challenge you? Does it make you uncomfortable? Why?

Word is that someone's planning on taking a new Volleyball picture Sunday night at Coronation. I need lots of pictures of Coronation & the Jersey Auction anyway- 

My In-Laws have a 50th Anniversary thing this weekend that I'm going to, so I can't attend. I've asked Yearbook Students, but over the years they've been notoriously unreliable (even when I make it part of their grade)- so can some of you PLEEEEASE take lots of pictures this weekend. 

You can put them in the Archive folder on the server Monday, email them to me, or- and this would be BEST- upload them to www.RePlayIt.com and they go directly to the yearbook! It's fast, easy & free.
