Re: Mallory Sub Lessons for Tuesday

ADDENDUM/Change to Mallory Sub Plans:
Apparently none of my Painting students met their rough draft deadlines, so we need an extra day to work on their papers.

1. Digital Photography
Students should use class time to make corrections/revisions to their formal writing assignments. Once they are finished, they may also retouch pictures or work on composite images in Photoshop. Final drafts are due tomorrow.

2. Drawing
Students should use class time to work on their formal written assignments, either narrowing their search for a drawing to analyze or using the questions on their handout to write the paper. They may borrow laptops from Mrs. Hanigan if they need to (we had some trouble with our newtwork hubs in the graphics lab yesterday)

4. 7th Grade art
Silent D.E.A.R. reading time 11:30-11:45am.
Students will continue working on their superimposed-perspective cubist portraits which they began yesterday. They should be working all hour.

5. Painting
Students can begin working on their acrylic cubist paintings. It's important that they clean their brushes and palates thoroughly. Students should use class time to finish their formal writing assignments/painting analysis papers.

6. Yearbook
Students should be working on pages on http://yearbookavenue.jostens.com or use time wisely as a studyhall for other classes. Students with nothing else to do should:
Check captions on pages for spelling
Identify students in pictures in the image gallery, or by right-clicking and chosing "show in image gallery" pictures on layouts with exclamation points on them.

7. Drawing I
Independent Study student Melissa Hanigan may:
Work on her surrealist drawing.
Select a new exercise from the choice-board drawings in the black metal magazine holder on the island.
Use time as a studyhall for another class

Mr. Mallory's Theory of Everything

Truly, this could probably go on forever. Just the "Utility" bubble alone could branch off indefinitely. In fact, that may be a good lesson, to have kids brainstorm as many uses for art as possible (and thereby also art-related vocations).

Mallory Sub Lessons Tues. 3/23

4. 7th Grade art

·   4-phased self portrait. Worksheets/directions will be on the island. Students will have examples of the 4 uses of art on one hand out. On the other, they'll have directions for drawing themselves 4 different ways.

Directions: Draw yourself 4 times. In frame #1 devise a symbol, logo or trademark for yourself. In frame #2 you may use colors, shapes, designs, textures etc. and create an abstract, simplified picture of your face. It may look “cartoony”, like a robot, or simply bizarre. In frame #3 make an expressive portrait- that is, don’t exactly draw yourself- draw how you feel, draw your personality. And finally, in frame #4 make the most realistic, detailed, photographic, careful drawing of your face as you possibly can. If you do not finish in class, you may take this worksheet home and complete it as homework.

 6. Yearbook

·  Students should all be working on pages. If they are finished, they may use the time wisely as a study hall. They could go into the "image gallery" and identify ("tag") students in pictures. Casey & Christian may go to Mrs. Koenig's if they need to. Casey & Sasha may also work on Painting.

7. Drawing 1

·   Melissa Hanigan/ Independent Study- Melissa is working on her 18x24 self-portrait.

Thank you Subs!

Mallory Sub Lessons

Mallory      Sub Lessons           Thurs. 2/9/08
1. Digital Photography

Have students take the online practice quizzes for chapter 2. See directions hand outhttp://wps.prenhall.com/hss_london_ashortcour_6/30/7766/1988309.cw/index.html

2. Drawing
Students need to take down whichever of their 3 skull drawings they critiqued yesterday and attach it (paper clip or staple) to their critique sheet and turn it back in. Some students still need to hand in their critique sheets. Next, students should read pages 155-157 in their handout packets and do a popping-into-focus-as-a-shape drawing of their hands. If they complete this drawing, then they should go ahead read pp. 157-158 and do the "Shapes That Are Stranger" drawing as well. If they get both drawings done, they may read ahead thru158-162, BUT wait until Wed or Thurs to begin the third drawing, which should take longer.

4. 7th Grade art
Silent D.E.A.R. reading time 11:30-11:45am.
Students will continue working on their slab-construction clay dog houses.
Clean-up is important. Have students put their projects on the island, under plastic bags. Extra clay should go back in the barrel and the lid must be put back on the barrel. Start cleaning up at 12:28pm

5. Painting
Students should experiment with color field or "multiform" paintings like Mark Rothko.  Clean-up is important. They should try to fit their paintings in the drying cabinet. They MAY- in fact should (especially Quincy) listen to music on their MP3 players. If/when they finish 2 de Kooning style paintings, they may want to help Quincy create a Jackson Pollack style painting too.

6. Yearbook
— Yearbook II students should all be working on pages.
— Luke and Colton (Yearbook I) Review 104-121 in their books and use it to finish worksheets, Activities 17.1, 17.2, 17.3 (SEE HANDOUTS ON COUNTER)

7. Drawing I
— Melissa Hanigan  has all of her Chapter 8 assignments. She should probably be drawing either her leg, or a doorway in the classroom in her sketchbook.
